This one is for all my fellow “I want to like classics, but can’t understand a word they’re all saying” club members. It is also my first audiobook recommendation in these monthly picks! Because while this is just a great, delightful, put-a-smile-on-your-face read, the audiobook highlights the tone of the story and escalates it to beautiful heights.
Simply, this is the story of Mary Bennet – that overlooked, misunderstood sister of Elizabeth – giving her the proper attention she deserves. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at Pride and Prejudice through this new lens and appreciated the headstrong, independent Mary that Janice Hadlow creates. You can’t help but root for this woman who simply wants to live a commanding, full life based on her passions, merits, and intelligence … not just her beauty, or the lack thereof.
Classic and modern, this will appeal to both die hard Austen fans and newcomers. A fantastic audiobook that demands you to slow down and breathe a little.
