Thoughts:
I haven’t read A Gentleman in Moscow, I’m going to have fix that now! I had assumptions, and I don’t know where they came from, that Amor’s books would be unapproachable or “high brow” and dense. Not so. Don’t get me wrong, Amor Towles writes with high intellect and confidence – The Lincoln Highway is one smart novel – but he writes with a laid-back, completely approachable, comforting way that is so easy to sink into.
The Lincoln Highway brought back my love of reading.
After a disaster of a reading year that was 2021, I really started to wonder if I even enjoyed books anymore. In the final hour, after one hundred and six novels, I finally found my favourite read of the year!
I simply loved this book. This quiet, intelligent, thought provoking nuggets on every page, character driven book. Cozy comfort, beautiful characters, heart touching moments, and a message that continues to extend beyond the plot, this is a not-to-be-missed-novel for fans of historical fiction, arresting, iconic characters, slow moving plots that allow those characters to fully bloom, a bit of heartache, and a whole lot of love. A little bit Steinbeck, a little bit Faulkner, The Lincoln Highway is a modern story that feels like a classic.
