Vegan, Gluten-Free
Nothing teams better with a chilly winter walk, snowball fight, or afternoon sledding than a toasty warm beverage and a chill, calming holiday playlist. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with simple packaged powder hot chocolate mix and store bought cider in a pinch … but if you’re looking to seriously impress your family this holiday by turning your home into a mini Starbucks oasis – minus the noise, crowds, and covid-risk – check out these vegan, gluten free, (and super simple!) recipes for homemade Apple Cider and Hot Cocoa.
Check out my two favourite relaxing Holiday Playlists below: Christmas Chill and Classical Christmas. If you’re looking for even more holiday playlists, click here to see the Christmas Coffee House playlists I shared last year.
Vegan, GF Hot Cocoa
(adapted from @Causebox)
Combine well:
-
1 tbsp cocoa powder (make sure to check labels for gluten free & dairy free)
-
1 tbsp brown sugar
-
1 tbsp maple syrup
-
2 tbsp warmed almond milk
Add the above mixture to 1 1/4 cup warmed almond milk (or your favourite dairy free milk), stir well. Top with your favourite toppings – marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, candy canes, etc!
Homemade Apple Spice Cider
(adapted from Pick Up Limes)
Combine:
-
4L high quality, no sugar added apple juice
-
1 thinly sliced orange
-
About 4 cinnamon sticks
-
5 cracked cardamom pods
-
Approximately 1inch piece of fresh ginger, thinly sliced (I also add a bit of grated ginger as well, because my family really loves ginger)
Combine all ingredients in medium pot and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes. Serve hot and enjoy as this amazing aroma fills your home with comforting goodness!
