April 2023 – Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn
My pick for April’s Jolly Read – the one feel good read I recommend to you all every month – admittedly took me a bit of time to get into. But I just loved the bright spark that is Georgie (who should be played by author Emily Henry in any movie — same vibe, look, even attitude) and she kept me invested through the slightly prolonged beginning.
This is my favourite kind of contemporary, steamy romance novel, the rare breed that brings a believable love story with complicated characters experiencing real-life problems without miscommunication tropes. The plot is simple: after the big time movie producer she’s been a personal assistant to for years retires, Georgie returns home to house sit for her vacationing parents. Feeling lost and directionless, she discovers an old journal that she kept from her tween years — a journal full of small-scale life quests she dreamed of having. To “discover” herself again, Georgie decides to act upon this bucket list from the past with the help of her best friend (who recently moved to town) and an unexpected, quite handsome, houseguest (who just happens to be the brother of her tween crush!)
A book as delightful as its bright-as-sunshine cover! Fabulously entertaining with its grumpy-sunshine romance, wonderful best friend subplot, quaint small town dynamics, and, of course, the beloved dog, left me smiling … well, all along … (—see what I did there ?).
