Unboxing: Review of OwlCrate Jr. Tunnel Of Bones Special Edition

OwlCrate Jr. Tunnel of Bones Unboxing

The very first OwlCrate Jr special edition box did not disappoint! Featuring the second novel in Victoria Schwab’s Cassidy Blake series, Tunnel of Bones!

This box was full of fun, spooky goodies … read on for my thoughts and some closer details!

First up, my daughter’s favourite item, this black cat stuffie from Wild Republic. Cassidy has a black cat, Grimm, in these novels and it was a really smart nod to that. Plus, for my stuffed animal obsessed daughter, this might be her favourite item of the year. It is wonderfully soft and adorable.

Another important tool that Cassidy uses in her trials with all things ghosty is a mirror, aiding her in helping ghost spirits “move on”. This mirror pendant necklace is very substantial and has been used in numerous play scenarios.

Tunnel of Bones will take us beneath the city of Paris into the catacombs … what better nod to that spooky, grisly goodness then a fun soap from Leeloo’s? This unscented soap features a red skull coming out of its coffin – and ties in perfectly to the red and black colour scheme of this box. It is a nice, non drying soap and is perfect fun for this time of year.

A Choose Your Own Adventure book centring around the Paris Catacombs will be great to have on our next long car ride. This book, by Matt Doeden, features real pictures from the catacombs … a really cool feature.

Tote bag featuring a quote from City of Bones: “Watch and listen, see and know, this is what you are” … the tote is the same quality and size of the ones we’ve come to know from OwlCrate. Can’t say we were incredibly excited by this item, as we are up to our ears in totes, but it is good quality and excellent for hauling spooky books back from the library this October.

Two passport stickers — one from Edinburgh, one from Paris — designed by Anoosha Syed. These are adorable, Anoosha makes the most amazing, adorable and detailed designs. I am always so happy to receive something designed by her.

Finally we have the book itself! This first edition of Tunnel of Bones came signed by Victoria Schwab, with a letter from her. Scholastic also included a Tunnel of Bones poster.

Overall Rating: A

  1. Wild Republic Stuffie: 3/3

  2. Mirror pendant necklace: 3/3

  3. Leeloo skull soap: 2.5/3 (a little bit too spooky in our opinion, my daughter was quite afraid of it to be honest… I’m happy to use it though!)

  4. Quote Tote: 2/3 (great quality, just incredibly tired of totes. Again, a personal opinion, not a problem with the product).

  5. Choose Your Own Adventure Book: 3/3 (loved this as a kid and look forward to trying this on our next car ride).

  6. Passport Stickers: 3/3

Overall another great box from OwlCrate Jr. They always pay such close attention to detail and provide excellent quality products — I always feel like I get my monies worth! Very excited to see what special edition they choose to feature next!!

Note on Rating: I rate each item out of 3 possible points: 1 for quality, 1 for usefulness, and 1 for if I personally liked the item/fandom. I then assign an overall letter rating for the whole box.
