Mood-Boosting, Blues-Busting Winter Smoothie Recipe

Vegan and Gluten-Free

Such a Fun Age smoothies

Ok, that title might be a bit over the top and dramatic, but I do find citrus has magical, mood boosting powers. Especially in the heart of the dark, cold, Canadian January winters. This house powers through oranges throughout December-February and so I decided to try my hand at smoothie inventing this year.

And you know what? This is pretty stinkin’, darn-tootin’ delicious. It is completely dairy free and as delicious and creamy as any milkshake, while being healthy enough to have for breakfast. Oh! And no ice cubes! I hate the watered-down taste of ice cubes in smoothies … instead make sure to use frozen fruit, rather than fresh.

Be sure to check out other winter mood boosting tips here, in my Beat The Winter Blues article.

Recipe:

  • 1 cup sliced frozen peaches
  • 3/4 cup cubed frozen mango chunks
  • 2 peeled mandarin or clementine oranges (or 1 medium, peeled navel orange)
  • 2-3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1.5 – 2 cups unsweetened almond milk — depends on how thick you like your smoothie.

Blend on high, adding more milk as needed.

Serves two.
