Unboxing: OwlCrate Jr. February 2020

“Bump in the Night”

OwlCrate Jr. February 2020 Unboxing

OwlCrate Jr gave us a little taste of Halloween this month! The theme for February was “Bump In The Night” a little celebration of monsters and all things spook. As always, OwlCrate Jr curated a box full of excellent, cheerful items that enhanced the theme. It may be about monsters, but by no means was scary!

Well, it is no surprise that my stuffy-loving nine year old was all over this bat from Wild Republic. Anytime a stuffed animal is included my daughter goes a little gaga, and I have to admit that for a bat, this stuffy is pretty stinking cute. My daughter has named it “Bump”, a nice little nod to this month’s theme.

But those socks have to be my favourite item. Inspired by Monsters Inc., these socks are cute, cheerful and bright. It doesn’t hurt that turquoise is my favourite colour and I especially love turquoise + purple together … so this is a winning item on all accounts. These socks are nice and soft, thick, and a bigger size than previous socks included, which is very appreciated!

This little wind up frog flashlight is such a clever item! Of course we all need a little flashlight to read with at night and to quickly grab when we hear a sound … and this cute little guy stands guard on my daughter’s nightstand ready to grab and protect!

If there is something my daughter and I never get sick of getting in our book boxes it is stationery items and this little “click-it” monster eraser from Ooly is a great addition to this box. Ooly makes the best stationery items that are just so bright and happy – appreciated by kids and kid-at-heart adults such as myself!

I was so glad to see this 100 piece puzzle included in the box – the artwork is from last month’s theme teaser card. These theme cards are always so adorable and what a great way to turn them into a lasting item!!

OwlCrate Jr likes to include STEAM items in every box and this month they included some paper crafts – make your own Where the Wild Things Are folded origami bookmarks. The instructions are in the monthly magazine and I sincerely hope my daughter and I can make these … let’s just say origami is not one of my, or her, strengths! Fingers crossed 🙂

The adorable monthly collectible sticker was designed by Laura Trinder – one of the authors of this month’s book!

The monthly book pick was The Midnight Hour by Laura Trinder and Benjamin Read. This book came signed by both authors, with an author letter, and a bookmark from the publisher.

This box was packed with items this month! OwlCrate Jr puts so much thought into the items they curate and each month is just a little piece of happy. They did a great job creating a spooky-themed box, without making it scary. I love that about them.
