I think this might just be my daughter’s and my favourite OwlCrate Jr box … which is incredibly hard to pick because they all bring us so much joy! But every single item in this box was a home run for us. Here’s what was inside:

This heavy notepaper drawing pad and tin pencil case (filled with 6 drawing pencils) set was designed by Maya McKibbin and is such an excellent item. The drawing paper is heavy weight, the pencils are great quality sharpening easily and have a smooth drawing lead, the design is incredible … I simply love everything about this set.

We were lucky enough to get a Golden Compass item – this 20 oz food safe plastic water bottle. This is such a large water bottle and I love all The Golden Compass elements that Janine Lecour designed here – Pan, Air Balloons, Northern Lights, and of course, the bear. This water bottle has been washed and used again and again and the drawings are not peeling or chipping. I appreciate how team OwlCrate always delivers on quality.

Narnia map bandana designed by Erin Gibbs. If there is one item that my daughter uses the most from our four years of being OwlCrate Jr subscribers, it is the Arlo Finch: In the Valley of Fire bandana from the February 2018 box – she loves it and has come up with so many ways to play with it. So I know she will appreciate this Narnia one just as much, because … well, it’s Narnia, and who doesn’t love Narnia merchandise?

So my favourite fandoms to get in book boxes include The Golden Compass, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, and The Hobbit … and the last item is this awesome box was this Hobbit-inspired enamel pin designed by Forensics and Flowers. I just love it, that’s all I can say. Smaug for the win!

The October sticker of the month was designed by Ellen Surrey.

The book pick for October was The Barren Grounds by David A. Robertson – which came with an OwlCrate Jr exclusive cover, signed bookplate, and letter from the author. I am really intrigued by this own-voices Indigenous, middle grade fantasy, set in Winnipeg, Canada – which looks like the perfect, chilly escapist read to curl up with this November!
