Unboxing: Review of LitJoy Crate October 2019

“Fallen Angel”

LitJoy Crate October 2019 Unboxing

The theme for LitJoy Crate’s October box was “Fallen Angel” and was full of fandoms from books I haven’t read! (Shakes head at self) This was an excellently curated box and I always appreciate the extra attention to detail that LitJoy puts into their items – I love knowing why an item was chosen for the box. Each item ties into the book pick and I think that is a detail that makes LitJoy a little more special.

I’m a Ravenclaw, I like details.

Favourite item this month is the Daughter of Smoke and Bone enamel pin. This book is on the top of my 2020 TBR – hoping to be my first read of the year. Since I loved the Strange the Dreamer duology I have high hopes! Laini Taylor is brilliant and there just isn’t enough merch from her stories!

Shadowhunter Rune Bracelet – this is the last bracelet in the LitJoy 2019 quarterly bracelet collection. I think each bracelet has been well thought out to represent the fandom but also be quite neutral if you aren’t familiar with that fandom. I think my favourite bracelet from the 2019 collection is the Percy Jackson one from April’s box.

Infernal Devices Clockwork Angel 60 page notepad. This is so clever – I can never have enough notepads in my life as I am a compulsive list maker. I just purchased Clockwork Angel and plan to read it soon … then I’ll be able to pick out some of the details on this notepad. Artwork by Catarina Book Designs.

Supernatural Fingerless gloves – I am wearing these right now! I like wearing fingerless gloves when typing reviews, because my fingers for some reason get unreasonably cold! I wish these were a titch longer and a little softer … but individual preference and I am extremely skin sensitive to fabrics. Again I haven’t watched Supernatural … something about seeing Dean as anything other than Dean wigs out my mind, but these gloves are an understated nod to the fandom.

Disney Villians collector cards – set of 4. I love them. Enough Said.

I love the colours and I love the slightly bombshell take on the lady villains. I’m a major Disney fan so anything Disney will always be a win for me. Unless it’s Dumbo … we won’t go there. Artwork by Tamar Vashadze.

Book pick of the month was Angel Mage by Garth Nix, which came signed with an author letter, tip-in artwork (by Stephanie Brown) and amazingly gorgeous reversible dust jacket artwork by Lorena Lammer.

Overall Rating: A

  • Daughter of Smoke and Bone Enamel Pin: 3/3

  • Shadowhunter Rune Bracelet: 2/3 (Wish these weren’t so annoyingly large … you can adjust them if you have Herculean strength to bend the metal. If they were just a bit smaller, they’d be more wearable. Each bracelet this year just got bigger and bigger).

  • Clockwork Angel Notepad: 3/3

  • Fingerless Gloves: 3/3

  • Bonus Point! Simply stunning artwork on the reversible dust jacket. Has to be seen to be truly appreciated.

Overall another great box by LitJoy – I have really enjoyed their curation this year. I love that they detail why each item was chosen and how that ties into the book pick. The reversible dust jacket artwork is stunning and always my favourite part of their crate.

Because of their new points rewards program I was able to purchase this crate for free – just paid for shipping – after trading in my points for my three month subscription. I think this is an excellent program and really rewards customers! I highly recommend checking them out.

For international customers this is a slightly more expensive box than OwlCrate, but I always feel there is an extra attention to detail with the curation and items. Fandoms are more subtle and the artists they work with are brilliant.

Note on Rating: I rate each item out of 3 possible points: 1 for quality, 1 for usefulness, and 1 for if I personally liked the item/fandom. I then assign an overall letter rating for the whole box.
