Straight up, this isn’t going to be everyone’s jam. Magonia will appeal to those looking for a completely unique reading experience, are fans of Neil Gaiman style fantasy, and enjoy books that smash up genres … in this case magical realism, science fiction, and bit YA Contemporary. I loved this utterly unique, fast paced, oddball of a book that can easily provide some wonderful distraction if you’re willing to give it a chance.
16 year old Aza Ray has been struggling to breathe her entire life – existing on a precarious balance of medication, limitation and constant hospitalization. If that isn’t enough, Aza swears she can see ships in the sky and hear someone calling her name. Only her fellow loner and, maybe-something-more, BFF Jason believes her.
Then Aza dies. And wakes up on a trading ship in the sky kingdom of Magonia. She is powerful, her lungs are full of air and she just happens to be humanity’s only hope from the impending battle between Earth and Magonia.
